Northwood School's setting in the Olympic village of Lake Placid and its proximity to the region's Olympic training facilities make it an ideal location for student athletes wishing to pursue freestyle skiing. Northwood's Freestyle Ski Team practices and trains at nearby Whiteface Mountain, a 10-minute drive from campus.
Whiteface boasts five terrain parks which represent a staggering 2.5 miles of freestyle terrain littered with jumps, rails, hips, jibs, and other features, such as airbag training, to accommodate all levels of freestyle ability. The Northwood Freestyle Ski Team also utilizes the school's own state-of-the-art fitness center for dry-land strength and endurance training on campus.
Just a few miles away, the Lake Placid Olympic Training Center is an ideal location for strength training and trampoline sessions, while the Lake Placid Olympic Ski Jumping Complex boasts a swimming pool and jumps for freestyle athletes to practice and perfect new tricks in the off-season. Freestyle skiers are also offered the opportunity in November to train in Colorado with the Northwood Alpine Ski Team leading up to the winter season.
