On Saturday, September 27, three Northwood Crew athletes competed at the Tail of the Fish Regatta, in Saratoga Springs. At the start of the day’s racing on the 2-mile Fish Creek course, Caroline Harrison ’23, rowing her first “head race” (a time trial over a longer-than-springtime distance, typically on a winding river course)—and her second formal race ever—placed 6th in a field of 8 U17 junior women single scullers. Two of the girls who beat her were from an elite junior program; the other three were from the Saratoga Rowing Association and train daily on the regatta’s course. Caroline brought home a medal for taking third place among “A,” or first-boat, entries. At the other end of the day, Imani Hawman ‘20 and Su Hae (Jessica) Jang ’20—two lightweights (and scholastic runners-up at May’s New York State Championships) with no lightweight event on offer—went up against the open-weight junior women’s doubles and placed 17th among 25 crews.
