Prep Hockey's Multi-State Tour

"The Prep hockey team started the new year at Merrimack College for the Gamesheet Prep Cup Tournament. Northwood went 2-1 beating Nichols School and Mount St. Charles and losing only to Dexter. We also attended the Merrimack vs. Yale non-conference match up.

We had a week off before we gathered in Buffalo, NY on Martin Luther King Jr. Day. We set up practices at Niagara University, Canisius College, and Nichols School during the week.

In Buffalo, we had a wonderful team dinner at Daniel Buchbinder’s house. Daniel will graduate in 2023 and recently committed to UMASS, Lowell, Division I, Hockey East. We also took the team to Chef’s restaurant in downtown Buffalo. Chef’s is famous for celebrities to frequent and displays many of their pictures on the walls holding a jar of Chef’s spaghetti sauce.

After our practice at Nichols on Thursday, we traveled to Detroit for our Prep Hockey Conference Crossover. We played our games at the Detroit Red Wing’s Belfor Training Center, which is attached to their main rink, Little Caesars Arena. Over the course of the weekend, we were able to watch the Red Wings and Flyers on the ice during their pre-game skates. We also were fortunate enough to have the Head Coach of the Detroit Red Wings, Derek Lalonde (a North Country Native), speak to our team before our Shattuck St. Mary’s game.

On the way back to Syracuse on Monday following our trip to Detroit, we stopped at Destiny USA and the boys were able to have some fun and ride the famous carousel." - Assistant Coach Boys' Prep Hockey, Stephen Mallaro '06
