Steve Mallaro ’06 Appointed Prep Team Associate Head Coach

Northwood School is pleased to announce the appointment of Steve Mallaro as the associate head coach of Northwood’s top hockey team. Mallaro joins the staff of Head Hockey Coach Mark Morris.

Mallaro is a 2006 graduate of Northwood School. He was the team captain on the first Northwood hockey team to reach 40 wins under coach Mark Morris.

“As a player, Steve played an honest, hardworking game and always carried the willingness to do things the right way,” states Morris. “He’s a fun-loving person, and he embodies all the right qualities you’d want from your players: steady, strong, reliable, trustworthy, and committed to excellence. He is a class act and an excellent coach, and there is no doubt that his example will serve the program well.”

Mallaro has had an extensive coaching career following a successful collegiate career at Oswego State University and a minor pro career. He began coaching at Manhattanville College, earning a master’s degree in Sport Business Management. He then joined the College at Brockport for two seasons before being hired at King’s College as the first head coach in program history. Most recently, Stephen was the head coach at the Albany Academy Prep School.

“Over the years, we’ve stayed in touch sharing a great deal about hockey and life, continues Morris. “We see the game through the same lens, and I’m excited that we are reuniting at a place that we are both passionate about to write the next chapter of Northwood hockey.”

Northwood School is set to resume in-person classes on Sept. 9 with hockey student-athletes onboarding within the next two weeks.
