Updated Fall Calendar and Save the Date: Cohort Virtual Town Hall Meeting

Dear Northwood Families:

Greetings from Lake Placid, where our region has been successfully managing the spread of the virus while cautiously opening up the economy and welcoming visitors to our beautiful Olympic Village. We are looking forward to bringing our students back to campus at the end of the summer. Today I write to share our updated school calendar for the fall and to invite you to a Cohort Virtual Town Hall next week.

Northwood School’s Fall Academic Calendar has been updated to reflect the changes resulting from the pandemic. You can find the revised calendar here. During these uncertain times, it seems like the only thing we can be certain of is change, and this calendar may need to change again. If it does, you’ll be notified promptly.

Mr. Maher’s update from last week dealt with cohorts and how we will bring students back to campus in the fall. We know you have questions about these two topics and so we have scheduled five Virtual Town Hall Meetings to further describe how cohorts and onboarding will work and to answer your questions. The schedule of Town Halls is (all times are EDT):

  • Soccer: July 13 at 9:00 am
  • Independents: July 13 at 10:30 am
  • Boys’ Hockey: July 14 at 9:00 am
  • Girls’ Hockey: July 14 at 10:30 am
  • Competitive Snowsports (Alpine, Freeride, and Skijumping): July 15 at 10:00 am

Please submit your questions ahead of time with the form (included in the email). In the coming days, we will send Virtual Town Hall login information to all of the students and their families affiliated with each cohort. This brings me to a reminder: if you haven’t done so already, please sure to choose your cohort today.

Finally, I have two more reminders for all new and returning students. Be sure you pick up a copy of Northwood’s All-School Read, The Other Wes Moore. Copies are widely available at your local library or wherever you buy books, including The Bookstore Plus, Lake Placid’s family-owned independent bookstore.  Also, all new and returning students by now should have received information about course selection for next year. If you have questions, please contact Dr. Laura Finnerty Paul at finnertypaull@northwoodschool.com

I look forward to seeing students and families at the Virtual Town Halls next week.

Sincerely,

John Spear
