A Distinct Academic Experience
In addition to our comprehensive college-prep curriculum, we offer several distinct academic programs that are unique to Northwood School. Like all other small boarding schools, we provide countless opportunities for "hands-on" learning in our classes and go beyond what is offered elsewhere. Our L.E.A.P, Innovation and Design, Entrepreneurial Studies, and Robotics & Engineering courses provide students with a chance to gain, practical, "First-Hand Experiences" that are seldom offered at the high school level. These experiences not only help our students further develop their passions and interests but also distinguish Northwood School students during the college admission process.

Northwood's L.E.A.P. Program takes students and faculty out of the classroom for collaborative, first-hand academic experiences. Students work with experts in the field and are provided opportunities to explore compelling environments and complete ambitious projects resulting in skill development and confidence for future real-world challenges. The L.E.A.P. Showcase that caps the week allows students to share their adventures in learning with the school and local community. Learn more about Northwood's LEAP Program and offerings.
Northwood School's robotics programs transform students from passive users to active creators. Through introductory and applied courses and participation in a robotics co-curricular option, students learn engineering, design, coding, and programming concepts essential to the field. They then employ these concepts to design, fabricate, wire, and program functioning robots. Learn more about the computer programming and robotics offerings at Northwood School.
Northwood's Entrepreneurial Studies course provides students with the knowledge and experiences to transform a passion project into a successful business. In addition to gaining a better understanding of economic theory, Entrepreneurial Studies students learn the common traits of successful enterprises from small businesses to multi-national corporations. Northwood School students start with independent research and use class sessions to identify potential projects. They then learn methods of evaluating existing research and information, conceive solutions, test them through prototypes, and ultimately develop innovations that take action to resolve real-world problems. With help from visiting experts, students also learn how design can lead to entrepreneurial opportunities. This program gives dreamers and makers the skills to bring their ideas from concept to reality. Learn more about innovation and design at Northwood.
