January 7, 2020 — Northwood School administration announces the appointment of two new faculty members to its distinguished faculty: Elliotte Yookyung Lee and Reid Jewett Smith. Both join Northwood School as teaching faculty in the Humanities Department.
Elliotte Yookyung Lee
Lee holds a Master of Science in Educational Leadership & Curriculum and Instruction from the American College of Education and is a graduate of Florida State University where she received her Bachelor’s of Arts in English and Education. Lee has spent the past 15 years teaching high school students literature, reading, English, and social studies. She was most recently the MS and HS English Department Chair, Literature Teacher for Grades 9-12 at Pioneer Academy in New Jersey. She has received many accolades for her curricular leadership and design projects and has been heavily involved in school leadership activities throughout her tenure.
Reid Jewett Smith
Reid is an experienced Curriculum Specialist with a history of working in secondary schools. Smith received the Bachelor of Arts in History from Boston University, Master of Arts in American History from Brown University and is currently pursuing her Doctor of Philosophy in Curriculum and Instruction from Boston College, Lynch School of Education. Prior to Northwood, Smith taught Curriculum Theories as a Doctoral Instructor at Boston College, and previous to this, Smith was the Head of the History Program at Stratton Mountain School. She brings to Northwood experience in curriculum development, public speaking, writing, history, areas of expertise spanning teacher education policy to social justice in education, and published numerous articles.
“We are pleased to be able to bring this level of talent to Northwood and expand our Humanities department providing our students a collaborative approach with multiple perspectives and different modes of thinking about past, present, and future,” states Noël Carmichael, Dean of Faculty and Academic Affairs.
Smith will be teaching a unique and timely elective "2020: A Year of Fear, Hope And Greed" and Lee will be teaching English short courses assuming the responsibilities for Stephen “Reno” Reed while he takes a step back from teaching. Reed will continue to remain engaged in Northwood as a college counselor and advisor.
“We are also fortunate to continue to have the guidance and support of Northwood’s biggest ambassador, Steve Reed, to support our new faculty and students,” states Michael Maher, Head of School. “His impact is generational and we look forward to him continuing to mentor and guide for many more years to come.”
