Student-Athlete Showcase - Calem Tommy

Today we kick off a new series showcasing student-athletes that excel both athletically and academically. Northwood School has a rich tradition of athletics dating back to its founding in 1905. The school's founding principles included a balance of rigorous academics, appreciation for the natural beauty of the Adirondack Mountains, and advanced athletic opportunities for its students. Northwood's athletic department supports this balance, and we are #northwoodproud of our students who excel at both.

Calem Tommy, a center midfielder/winger on the Northwood soccer team, is the first on this year's squad to accept a full athletic scholarship to college. He has chosen North Carolina State, which plays in the highly competitive Atlantic Coast Conference.

A native of Capetown, South Africa, Calem was born in 2003 and has played soccer for nine years. An honor roll student, his favorite subject at Northwood is environmental science. He expects to major in either business administration or psychology.

"The opportunity to grow me as a student-athlete and to deal with a different environment and new challenges led me to Northwood," he said. He chose NC State "for its great academic options and the chance to play soccer at the highest college level."

Calem is one of our most popular students; his gregarious, upbeat personality enlivens every room he enters. He "has enjoyed the diversity of the community and learning about the backgrounds of his classmates. I have also enjoyed the environment around Lake Placid and meeting the great staff at Northwood." Calem will be a great representative of Northwood in the ACC.
