Northwood News provides ongoing highlights important topics and areas of interest at Northwood School.

This January, Northwood has four exciting LEAP (the school’s Learn, Engage, Apply, Perform program) course offerings.

One is an adventure to Tanzania where ten students and three faculty will participate in a seven-day trek up Mt. Kilimanjaro, coupled with a safari in the Serengeti.

Northwood Outing Club’s Director, Bobby O’Connor who will be one of the trip leaders says, “We will start climbing on the Lemosho route which ascends for five days and then descends for two for a total of seven days on the mountain. The 31st Fédération Internationale du Sport Universitaire (FISU) World University Winter Games are underway in the host village of Lake Placid, and Northwood is playing a central role in much of the activity.

The FISU Games are the largest global sports events for student-athletes internationally and have brought students from 540 universities and 46 countries to Lake Placid.

While our students are on an extended winter break, the school is hosting 220 alpine athletes during the ten-day competition, and the school is proving to be the ideal location for them. As Assistant… continue reading

After one of the most distinguished careers in American hockey history, with extraordinary success at the prep, collegiate, and professional levels, Northwood’s Mark Morris will retire at the end of this season.

His successor will be the current Assistant Coach, Steve Mallaro. Both Morris and Mallaro are Northwood alumni, graduating in ’77 and ’06 respectively. In Morris’s first stint as Northwood’s Coach, Mallaro served as Captain of the first Northwood hockey squad to win forty games.

“Northwood’s Outing Club is about more than just giving students great opportunities to enjoy the outdoors. More importantly, the program provides experience with new cultures and ways of looking at the world,” says program Director, Bobby O’Connor who just returned from leading students on a rock-climbing expedition in Red Rocks, Nevada, and is now preparing for the program’s spring expedition to climb Mount Kilimanjaro, the highest mountain in Africa at 19,341 ft.
